Robotics

The creators of Robobo come from the world of research and university teaching in robotics. Our experience has allowed us to develop this new concept of educational robot centered on a fundamental idea: the robots that are used in the classrooms are now, technologically, very far from the real robotics, and consequently, they become out of date very soon and its usefulness in classes is lost. With Robobo this problem disappears, because the smartphone always contains cutting-edge technology, and the moment one becomes obsolete, it can be simply replaced with a more modern one. Robobo's base and applications to program it will continue to work.








Education

The real goal of Robobo is to bring real robotics to classrooms. Thanks to the smartphone, teachers can propose projects that use vision, sound recognition, speech, tactile interaction, etc. In this way, students solve realistic problems with the robot. In addition, its continuous updating allows Robobo to be a long-range educational tool, and first-year students can continue to use the same robot throughout their education without losing motivation. From the project Robobo we propose that students use their own smartphone in the robot, as an extra motivation, but nothing prevents it from using a dedicated one.








Smartphone

Robobo is not a toy based on smartphone, but it transforms the smartphone into the center of processing and sensorization of a mobile robot, exploiting to the maximum all the technological capabilities of this one. High resolution cameras, gyroscope, accelerometer, microphone, GPS receiver, speaker, touch screen, WI-FI, 4G, Bluetooth, last generation processor ... All these features become available to program the robot.

Programming

We have developed applications that allow you to program Robobo in different educational levels, from primary to higher education. Starting from a basic level, Robobo can be programmed in the most extended block-based language, Scratch, for which we have developed numerous own blocks. For an intermediate level, you can program it using Android Studio, the same environment that is used to make mobile applications. For an advanced level, Robobo is fully compatible with ROS, the most widely used open source operating system in the field. Access all these applications from our WIKI.

Product

The first Robobo units are marketed as an experimental pack for the classroom. This pack consists of a pre-series of robotic bases, fully functional, accompanied by programming software (for different educational levels), a smartphone application and a set of didactic units for the teacher. These units follow the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) methodology, and help make the most of Robobo's capabilities.
